The Secret To Success

POSTCARD-008

*Long time, no blog. Been pretty busy running around doing commercial photography jobs in the past week. Don't worry, I'll be sharing a lot of this commercial work with you all so stay tuned!

In the past year or so, I've met a ton of hugely successful creatives and professionals in all types of industries. I have found that they all do one thing in common which I believe is at the core of why they're successful. Here goes:

The secret to success is to truly commit. Do what your peers are too lazy or fearful to do.

That's it. It sounds really obvious, even somewhat patronising once you verbalise it, but simple truths often are. Think about it. If everyone did the same thing, at the same level & quality, by definition there would be no successful people - only a big bunch of average people. By going that one step further than the person next to you, you can seperate yourself from your peers and achieve success.

Those that I've met certainly do this. Their level of commitment to their craft is above the rest of their peers and it is very obvious.

Waking up before the crack of dawn to get out to a location for sunrise whilst your peers lay in bed asleep. Climbing, that much higher to get to that perfect vantage point for that landscape shot whilst your peers shoot from the standard lookouts. Committing to that weird but potentially awesome photo concept you've had in mind for ages. Doing it even though it may be difficult & embarrassing mixed in with a high risk of failure. These are all things that your peers are too lazy or fearful to do. These are what will set you apart from everyone else and help you achieve success in whatever you are trying to do.

What is the point of doing something with the aim of being just mediocre. You should fear mediocrity.
So the next time your alarm rings, think twice about hitting that snooze button.

If the above resonates well with you, I'd appreciate it if you shared it with a friend that desperately needs a kick in the pants (frontside).
