Pixel 5 Camera Test: Sample Photos & Video
Hi friends! I’ve had the pleasure of using & testing the brand new Google Pixel 5 now for a few weeks. I’ve used it to shoot a bunch of different photos & videos in some cool Sydney locations. If you want to hear my full thoughts on the phone & camera watch the video above.
5 things i like about the Pixel 5
Size, weight & build: after using the larger XL size phones for the past few years it’s actually quite nice to use a small and lightweight device again. The Pixel 5 is super light but at the same time the build quality is nice. It’s a unibody aluminium build which still has wireless charging.
Fingerprint ID: I’ve always liked fingerprint ID better than FaceID - even though the latter has become the norm in smartphones. There is just no fapping about with fingerprint ID - it works instantaneously 100% of the time. Fingerprint ID is particularly useful in this generation of smartphone as wearing masks during the pandemic make FaceID a big pain.
6” OLED Screen: the OLED screen is nice and crisp and the bezels are uniform (my OCD thanks you). The front facing holepunch camera is also barely noticable - all nice and tucked away in the top left hand corner.
New ultra-wide lens: finally! I always thought it was the wrong choice to go with the telephoto lens over the ultra-wide. I was right. There are just shots you can’t get with a telephoto lens. The Pixel 5 has implemented digital zoom to cover the telephoto lens side and I think Google’s AI does a great job in processing the telephotos (even though it’s a digital zoom).
No (minimal) camera bump: if you’re like me and don’t like to use cases, having no / minimal camera bump is great. It sits basically flush on the table and doesn’t rock about.
